MAGICIAN and international street performer Andrew Elliott will return to the city where he landed his first job performing magic tricks as a teenager.

Elliott will perform in Newcastle as part of the Livesites Street Performers' Festival which will run from March 29 to April 1. It will include performances in the Hunter Street Mall, Harbour Square and Honeysuckle Workshops.

Elliott grew up in Nelson Bay and taught himself tricks as a child. As a teenager he attended classes at the Young People's Theatre at Hamilton.

Aged 16, he won a magic competition which helped him to get a job performing magic tricks at a Newcastle shopping centre.

After finishing school he travelled to the village of Shadipur, north of India's capital New Delhi, where he learnt about snake-charming from the country's magicians.

His show includes sword-eating and snake-charming, with the participation of python Olive.

English comedic magician Nick Nicholas and French street performer Jean-Marie Cordaro will also take part in the Livesites festival, along with Senior Piggy Wigg's Bohemian Love Theatre and The Flying Rolandos.

There will also be a Street Performers' Spectacular evening show. Visit livesites.org.au.
