Natural Charmer Will Work Magic

Newcastle Herald

By MICHELLE HARRIS

ANDREW Elliott was always up to tricks as a child.

From a young age he taught himself magic tricks by reading books on the subject.

As a teenager he learned the skill of eating fire, much to the delight of his father who then worked as a fireman for the Royal Australian Air Force.

His magic skills have taken him around the world but Mr Elliott returned to Newcastle recently after more than 20 years of touring the globe as a street and comedy performer.

After finishing school Mr Elliott moved to the village of Shardipur, north of India's capital Delhi.

He lived there among groups of magicians, bear trainers and other street performers who taught him the art of snake charming and traditional Indian magic tricks.

"It was not the Las Vegas dinner suit kind of magic usually seen," he said.

He will showcase his talents before a Newcastle audience once again tomorrow evening at the launch of the Newcastle Live Sites' cabaret and comedy program called Loud.

Tickets are available from Newcastle Live Sites.
